Introducing One Book One Child
The ONE CHILD ONE BOOK, designed for young people aged between 3 and 13 years in Nigeria, is a child intervention program conceived as a result of the need to improve the education and mental development of Children within the country who do not have access to books due to certain circumstances beyond their control. These include children in camps for Internally Displaced People, some in the Niger Delta regions of the country and others in select hinterlands within Nigeria. Statistics shows that over 200,000 Nigerian children fall within this category 1. Nearly 40% of this overwhelming number do not have access to books. Over 80% cannot afford one even if do.
The project will be executed concurrently within seven locations in Nigeria cutting across the Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps. The project is totally volunteer-based. Over 80 volunteers are expected to be mobilized via online platforms and community outreaches. ONE CHILD ONE BOOK project will be launched on December 5, 2017 to mark the International Volunteering day.
The total cost for executing the project is two million, three hundred and fifty thousand naira, only (NGN 2,350,000). The proposed BOOK FOR ALL PROJECT would contribute towards improving the beneficiaries' interest in reading and over all knowledge, and aid the achieving of the Child Development and Education related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) if effectively executed.
